Episode # 385 – “It is impossible to win over anyone with enmity” – Sage Maithreya advises Duryodhana!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Sage Vyaasa narrating an interesting story of Mother Surabhi and how she shed tears for all her children in the world who were being beaten up by human beings for their own usage. She also felt bad particularly about those cows that were not adequately fed, yet being used in a very harsh manner. As Mother Surabhi narrated these ordeals to Indra, he immediately summoned Varuna Bhagawan to pour copious amounts of rainfall onto the earth, through which, all the farming activities would come to a halt. Accordingly as Varuna Bhagawan released enormous rainfall, the cows had a break from their hectic schedule of harsh work and treatment. Sage Vyaasa narrates this to drive home the important point to King Dhridiraashtra that how “Putra Vatsalya” would end up creating a huge imbalance in the world! He explains through this story to King Dhridiraashtra that he should have a control over his affection towards Duryodhana and he should mend Duryodhana’s ways as quickly as possible, so as to avoid a huge disaster from happening. As Sage Vyaasa explains his part and leaves, he paves the way for Sage Maithreya to come over and do his part. We’ve witnessed the discussion till this point, and in today’s episode, we shall continue this further.

Moving on thus, just as Sage Vyaasa had informed, Sage Maithreya makes his way into the Hastinapura palace. As Sage Maithreya arrives, King Dhridiraashtra performs all the important respects towards him and makes him comfortable. As Sage Maithreya gets composed, he starts talking to King Dhridiraashtra, which is precisely the same as what Sage Vyaasa had spoken earlier. I’m not going into that part of the discussion because we’ve already witnessed it in the past couple of episodes. As Sage Maithreya narrates his accord, King Dhridiraashtra clearly explains to him thus, “Oh Sage Maithreya! I understand all what you’ve said till now! I’m ready to obey all your words. However, it is Duryodhana who has to pay heed and listen. I’ve told all this to him “n” number of times, yet, he is not prepared to listen to my words. Maybe you can do one thing – Please try and talk to Duryodhana and see if he gets convinced by your words. You can meet him in his chamber immediately!”

As King Dhridiraashtra said thus, Sage Maithreya immediately goes into Duryodhana’s chamber to meet him. As Sage Maithreya arrives, Duryodhana too pays all his respects and makes him comfortable. As Sage Maithreya sits down, he talks to Duryodhana thus, “Oh Duryodhana! You’ve undergone tremendous amounts of education under the able guidance of Guru Dhronachaarya. You would be knowing various aspects of “Raaja Dharma” and I do not need to take a special session for you to teach all that. However, please understand one thing very clearly – It is not possible to win over anyone in this world with enmity! If you create a divide between two groups of people, it would only lead to destruction, and not anything constructive. Moreover, please understand one thing – As I was on my way as part of my “Theertha-Yatra” (Spiritual tour), I met Yudishtra and Co. who are residing at the Kaamyaka-Vanam forest. They are doing fine and are executing all their “Dharma” to perfection!”

As Sage Maithreya explains thus, Duryodhana suddenly seems like losing interest in what he is explaining to him. Sage Maithreya continues thus, “Oh Duryodhana! Haven’t you heard of Bheemasena killing Hidimba, Bhakaasura, etc. who were extremely powerful Raakshasas in this world. You must know about Bhakaasura! It is very difficult to kill him, and Bheemasena achieved the feat singlehandedly. So why do you think all this happened? How did this happen? It is because of the divine “Anugraha” of Bhagawan Vaasudeva! Even now Bhagawan Krishna is with them. Hence, please do not commit the mistake that you’re about to commit now. Past is past. Whatever has happened, cannot be changed. However, the future is still in your hands. If you can mend your ways even now, it is not too late. You can resurrect a lot of things. Please call back Yudishtra and give away the Indraprastha kingdom that duly belongs to him. If you do so, you can escape a huge disaster that is awaiting your doorstep. If you fail to do it, nobody can save you!”

As Sage Maithreya explains to Duryodhana thus, Duryodhana has to react and say something isn’t it? So what is he going to say? Is Duryodhana going to realize at this point atleast after hearing from Sage Maithreya? Or, is he still going to continue his arrogance towards everyone? Let us wait and witness in the next episode! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 384 – “You’re not realizing that you are in great danger!” – Sage Vyasa slams King Dhridirashtra!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Sage Vyaasa’s concluding remarks with an important story that he narrates to King Dhridiraashtra, to drive home a crucial point. We’ve been in the midst of this story and through this, we’re going to see how Sage Vyaasa is beautifully linking to the pathetic plight that King Dhridiraashtra is currently in! We’ve seen how Surabhi, the divine mother of all the cows is crying out to Indra – The primary reason being that her children in the Manushya Lokha are being beaten up very badly by the human beings to extract work from them. For instance, the buffaloes are being beaten up to make them plough through the agricultural fields, for transportation, etc. Similarly the cows are being harassed and tortured to make them give more milk. Thus, a gross injustice is being meted out to all the cows and buffaloes and this is the reason Surabhi is in tears of sorrow. Not only this – Surabhi mostly feels bad for her weaker children who are just skin and bones, without being adequately nourished. Normally, a mother would care more for a less nourished and smaller kid than the better nourished and older one, won’t she? Similarly here also, Mother Surabhi is more concerned towards the under-nourished children of hers.

As Surabhi expresses her deep concern thus, Indra immediately tries to console her. He says, “Oh Surabhi! Please do not shed tears! I understand your pain that you’re carrying in your heart. If you cry, the Indra Lokha would start going towards a detrimental path. You are extremely important for us. Let us find a solution to this!” Consoling Surabhi thus, Indra straightaway calls for Varuna Deva. He instructs Varuna Deva to shower as much rain as possible on the earth! As per Indra’s instruction, Varuna Deva also showers enormous and copious amounts of rainfall on the earth, which leads to excessive flooding. This in turn, affects the agricultural activities in the world and thus, all the farmers go back to their homes, leaving the cows and buffaloes unharmed! This is a story that Sage Vyaasa explains to King Dhridiraashtra.

We might wonder here – What is the connection between Mother Surabhi, cows and buffaloes and King Dhridiraashtra and Co.? Why is Sage Vyaasa bringing this here? As Sage Vyaasa narrates this story thus, King Dhridiraashtra becomes excited! He immediately quips thus, “Oh Sage Vyaasa! Just like how Mother Surabhi in this story has so much of love and affection towards her children, so am I! I’m also having so much love and affection towards my sons! What is wrong with this?” As King Dhridiraashtra takes the lead thus, Sage Vyaasa becomes hurt! He replies to King Dhridiraashtra thus, Oh King! You’re thinking that you’re having affection and love towards your sons. Whereas, I’m also having affection and love towards you! Please remember – You and Paandu were born out of my divine “Anugraha” only! (We’ve witnessed these incidents in our earlier episodes). The detrimental path that you are taking, is hurting me enormously! Vidura has tried his level best to correct your course, but he couldn’t succeed. I’m now trying to advise you as your father. But still, you’re only sticking to your stance and not taking any effort to relent! You’re not realizing that you are in great danger! You’re thinking that the Paandavas have been punished and Duryodhana is enjoying his life. You’re strategizing ways and means of how to bring Duryodhana out of “danger” of losing the kingdom. But little do you understand that you’re only pushing Duryodhana into more and more danger because his life is at threat! King Dhridiraashtra! Please understand that a knife is hanging above both your and Duryodhana’s heads! This knife can finish you off at any point in time, if you do not change the course of your action towards “Dharma”!”

Saying thus, Sage Vyaasa finally concludes that after he leaves from here, Sage Maithreya will come in some time. Thus, with a heavy heart, Sage Vyaasa leaves the palace and this makes King Dhridiraashtra thoughtful. Sage Vyaasa’s words are constantly ringing in his ears, as he is waiting for Sage Maithreya to arrive. So for today, let us understand till this point, and let us also wait along with King Dhridiraashtra eagerly for Sage Maithreya’s arrival! Stay tuned for the next interesting and important accord! 🙂

Episode # 383 – Sage Vyasa narrates a story – Surabhi (Divine Cow) cries out to Indra!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed a more detailed accord on how Sage Vyaasa warns King Dhridiraashtra of disastrous consequences in the future, if he doesn’t mend Duryodhana’s ways now. Sage Vyaasa slams King Dhridiraashtra for his excessive “Putra-Vaatsalya” towards his son, and tries to make him understand how this is going to lead him only to mass destruction. Even as Sage Vyaasa explains to him, King Dhridiraashtra is still in two minds. He replies back by saying that he has tried enough and more to convince Duryodhana, but in vain. Instead, he puts the ball back on Sage Vyaasa’s court to try and convince Duryodhana to change himself! For this, Sage Vyaasa says that he cannot do all this, and instead, he would send Sage Maithreya for this.

As Sage Vyaasa is about to leave, he narrates a small story to King Dhridiraashtra. We shall witness that story in brief here and shall later link the story to the context that we are discussing. This story is all about an interesting conversation between a divine cow by name “Surabhi” and Indra. Here, Surabhi is feeling bad about how her sons and daughters are suffering in the world. Surabhi once talks to Indra thus, “Oh Indra! As a mother, I feel heart-wrenched sitting along with you in this Indra Lokha!” As Surabhi says thus, Indra did not understand what she was trying to say. He replies back to Surabhi thus, “Oh Surabhi! What happened to you? Why are you feeling heart-wrenched? Is there any problem that you are facing in this Indra Lokha? Did someone do something to you that was a sinful act? Let me know. I shall take stern action against those people who tried to harm you or your children here!” As Indra says thus, Surabhi replies back, “Oh Indra! I never said that I face any hardships or hurdles in the Indra Lokha. Just look downwards towards the “Bhoo-Lokha” – How all my sons and daughters are being beaten up and used by the people for their farming purposes. As a mother, how can I see my children getting beaten up like this by another person? My heart melts towards them. I somehow want to protect them from this harsh treatment that is meted out to them for no fault of theirs. Moreover, some of my children are even used to plough the field in a disastrous way, which I can’t even see! Also, for all the hard work that my children are doing, people aren’t giving them proper food and grass. Worst of all, my children are not even getting sufficient water to drink! How can a mother tolerate all these harsh treatments meted out to her children?”

Saying thus, Surabhi cries bitterly! Tears are rolling out of her eyes like a river. As Indra sees Surabhi’s pitiable condition, he replies to her thus, “Oh Surabhi! I understand the pain that you’re undergoing currently. But show me where such a thing is happening in the “Bhoo-Lokha”. Let us go and practically see it for ourselves!” As Indra requests Surabhi thus, Surabhi points out to two cows – One that is well nourished and the other that is just skin and bones. Both these cows are being beaten by a person who is trying to use these cows for his ploughing purpose. Especially the cow that was merely skin and bones bore the brunt of the person’s beatings, as it is already under-nourished. Upon seeing this, Surabhi couldn’t hold back her tears.

As Indra sees Surabhi’s pitiable condition, he asks back thus, “Oh Surabhi! I understand your pain and suffering. However, tell me one thing – Isn’t it a usual practice of beating the cow / buffalo by people for guiding them through their way in the field? What is the big deal in this?” As Indra asks thus, Surabhi replies back quickly, “Oh Indra! You’re right. I do not have any problem with healthy and well-nourished children of mine being beaten and made to work. My problem is with the under-nourished children of mine wherein they are not being fed adequately and still they’re being put to such a daunting task. Oh Indra! Please imagine this – If a mother has two children – One well nourished and the other under-nourished – The mother wouldn’t mind much if the well-nourished son is put to task heavily by the teacher / employer. However, if the under-nourished and the weaker child is put to such harsh treatment, won’t the mother have the urge to protect the weaker child? It is only upon seeing my weaker children, my tears are rolling out!”

As Surabhi replies thus, Indra is also vexed. He is also upset. So for today, let us also join Surabhi in sharing her pain as a mother. We shall wait till the next episode to find out where this conversation goes, and how Sage Vyaasa links this to the context of King Dhridiraashtra and Duryodhana! Stay tuned for an interesting accord! 🙂

Episode # 382 – “Your ‘Putra-Vatsalya’ is blinding you from Duryodhana’s atrocities” – Sage Vyasa slams King Dhridiraashtra!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Sage Vyaasa stopping Duryodhana from going ahead with his pursuit of killing the Paandava brothers in the forest. Sage Vyaasa angrily warns Duryodhana and Co. that they wouldn’t even be able to go near the vicinity of the Paandavas, forget killing them! Yudishtra’s “Dharma” and Bhagawan Krishna’s unending “Anugraha” protect them like a shield in all four sides! As Sage Vyaasa warns Duryodhana thus, Duryodhana fumes at Sage Vyaasa too! He abuses Sage Vyaasa verbally and as Sage Vyaasa’s temper is going up, King Dhridiraashtra rightly intervened and dozed down the tension between the two. As Duryodhana angrily walks away, Sage Vyaasa rendered his advice to King Dhridiraashtra to mend his son’s ways as quickly as possible, before things become too late. However, King Dhridiraashtra, for the state that he is in, expresses his helplessness to Sage Vyaasa, who in turn deputes Sage Maithreya to try and talk to Duryodhana as per King Dhridiraashtra’s request.

As we move into the subsequent “Adhyaaya”, there is a detailed explanation as to what conspired between Sage Vyaasa and King Dhridiraashtra. Till now we’ve just looked at a summary of what had happened. Here we have a detailed discussion about what Sage Vyaasa explained to King Dhridiraashtra. Sage Vyaasa makes a detailed accord thus, “Oh King! I’m sure you’re an expert in the “Raaja-Dharma” and all its aspects. Whatever happened at Hastinapura with regards to the gambling game and the Paandavas being sent on exile is completely illegal and don’t you know all these? Just because of your “Putra-Vaatsalya” (Excessive affection and concern towards your son), you’re letting all this take place. Why was Draupati insulted physically in the courtroom? Why did you keep quiet when such a thing happened? Of course, I understand that you’re blind, but when Vidura raised his voice multiple times, why didn’t you pay heed to his words? Why didn’t you stop Duryodhana then and there? Is it your affection towards him or do you have an innate fear for him? How can a leader have fear, and that too towards his own son? Isn’t this detrimental to the kingdom? Please remember this – The Draupati’s episode would go a long way in haunting your and your sons’ future! Had this been stopped at the right time, things would have become much better, but you failed in your duty of being neutral as a king! You should hang your head in shame for whatever has happened!”

With these sets of questions in a very harsh tone, Sage Vyaasa slams King Dhridiraashtra for his gross inaction and for being a mute spectator to what was conspiring right in front of his two eyes! As Sage Vyaasa thunders thus, King Dhridiraashtra knows within himself that he’s guilty under the eyes of “Dharma”. He should have stopped Duryodhana, but he failed to do it. He knows that he’s under the pump now! With all these confusions in mind, King Dhridiraashtra replies back thus, “Oh Great Sage Vyaasa! I completely understand my failure and policy paralysis on my part. But beyond a point, I’m also helpless. Duryodhana’s unruly character is only going up northwards by the passing day. He doesn’t seem to really understand that whatever he’s doing is dead against “Dharma”. I’ve tried my level best to make him understand, but he doesn’t. He has got into a bad companionship with Sahuni and the others, and is totally being misguided by all of them. Thus, Duryodhana is incorrigible at this stage, atleast from my point of view. Maybe as a last ditch attempt, why don’t you talk to him one day and convince him to change his course of action? I’ve done enough and more! Vidura has tried his level best too! All of us have got our noses bloodied by Duryodhana. We’ve had enough. Perhaps, as a sage, Duryodhana might have some iota of respect and fear for you, and maybe you can use this to drive your agenda!”

As King Dhridiraashtra explains this in detail, this is where Sage Vyaasa replies that he would depute Sage Maithreya for this last ditch attempt. So for today, let us understand this conversation in deeper detail and let us wait for the next episode to witness what happened next! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 381 – Duryodhana abuses Sage Vyasa – King Dhridirashtra averts a disaster!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Duryodhana marching forward along with Karna and the others to have a final assault on the Paandava brothers. This is precisely the same time when Sage Vyaasa enters into the Hastinapura palace! As Sage Vyaasa enters in, he enquires with Duryodhana about his “urgent pursuit”, upon which, Duryodhana reveals his plan. As he does so, Sage Vyaasa counters him smartly. He says to Duryodhana that he would not even be able to go near the place where Yudishtra and Co. are residing amidst the forest, because the “Dharma” that Yudishtra exhibits is extremely powerful that it would protect him and his brothers from any catastrophic happening. Moreover, Sage Vyaasa also warns Duryodhana that he is walking a very dangerous path, which might lead to a mass destruction, sooner or later. Moreover, Sage Vyaasa warns him that Bhagawan Krishna is having a close tab on whatever is happening to the Paandavas. Bhagawan Krishna would always take the side of “Dharma” and it is obvious that He has a close corner towards Yudishtra and Co. Hence, he warns Duryodhana that he might still escape from the wrath of the Paandava brothers, but he might bot be able to escape the wrath of Bhagawan and “Dharma”!

As Sage Vyaasa says thus, Duryodhana gets extremely irritated with his words of warning. Ignoring Duryodhana, Sage Vyaasa angrily walks into the chamber of King Dhridiraashtra! As Sage Vyaasa storms in, King Dhridiraashtra is stunned and doesn’t know how to react to it. Sage Vyaasa explains thus, “Oh King Dhridiraashtra! Don’t you understand as a king or as a father that your son is walking a dangerous path of “Adharma”? What kind of a leader are you? “Adharma” is happening right in front of your eyes and you are so aloof and not reacting to any of what is happening! Many people including Vidura have given enough and more advice. Perhaps, take my words as the past piece of advice you would get – Reverse your decision of sending the Paandava brothers to the forest. Ask Yudishtra to come back and give him his Indraprastha kingdom that rightfully belongs to him. Duryodhana has illegally occupied it without even an iota of ethics in him. Do you think you and your sons would escape the wrath of disaster for what he has done? So my request to you is to hand over the kingdom to Yudishtra and ask him to rightfully come and receive it from you! As a king, if you’re not taking a neutral stance, things would go disastrously!”

Saying thus, Sage Vyaasa is about to go back, and at this point in time, Duryodhana fumes with anger! He goes to the extent of even insulting and abusing Sage Vyaasa in front of everyone! As Duryodhana does this, Sage Vyaasa is about to angrily react, but is stopped by King Dhridiraashtra at the right moment. Had Sage Vyaasa reacted, he would have definitely cursed Duryodhana for his angry fuming. But thankfully for Duryodhana’s luck, that did not happen. King Dhridiraashtra replies thus, “Oh Great Sage! Please forgive Duryodhana on behalf of me. I’ve tried to educate Duryodhana in all ways. Vidura and many others have tried their level best, but in vain. Can you please render me a favour? Can you talk to Duryodhana once and slowly make him understand the situation and the danger he is walking upon? Maybe you are the right person to talk and convince Duryodhana to relent from his stance. I’m ready to call back Yudishtra and give the Indraprastha kingdom to him. I’m only fearing Duryodhana’s backlash after that!”

As King Dhridiraashtra explains thus, Sage Vyaasa replies back: “Oh King Dhridiraashtra! I understand your situation very well. However, I might not be able to do the task that you want me to do. Rather, I shall send Sage Maithreya, who might be able to do this. He will arrive at Hastinapura palace some time after I leave! You can ask Sage Maithreya and request him to approach Duryodhana. Please try this option!” Saying thus, Sage Vyaasa hurries out of the palace and this leaves King Dhridiraashtra more thoughtful than ever! Many people have warned him now, including Sage Vyaasa himself! Now what does he do? How does he mend Duryodhana’s ways? So for today, let us understand up to this point and let us wait till the next episode to continue this further! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 380 – “Yudishtra’s “DHARMA” is your biggest enemy to kill you” – Sage Vyasa slams Duryodhana!!!

We’re at the midst of an important juncture wherein Duryodhana is deciding to take on Yudishtra and Co. as a final assault while they are in the forest. Duryodhana’s philosophy is very simple – When the Paandavas are weak without their weapons, etc. attack them and finish them off completely. This would avoid all the problems if they return back after thirteen years. Duryodhana is concerned whether the Paandavas would come back and stake claim for the country, if Vidura is trying to influence King Dhridiraashtra. Duryodhana is scared of this only – Vidura is now back in business at Hastinapura, and there is every chance that he would start talking about “Dharma” and “Dharma” all the time, which can change his father’s mindset in no time. Duryodhana knows how weak-minded his father is, and he is scared whether he would reverse the decision that he had forced his father to take. Hence, to put an end to all this, Duryodhana, along with Karna and the others prepare for the final assault!

It is at this time, something unique happens! A person who never meets Duryodhana and Co. arrives at Hastinapura exactly at that moment when he prepares to leave for the fight. This person is none other than Sage Vyaasa himself! As Sage Vyaasa comes in front, Duryodhana does not know what to do! He simply prostates in front of Sage Vyaasa, as he asks Duryodhana thus, “Oh Duryodhana! Looks like you’re going out somewhere. What is so important for you at this moment? With whom are you going for a war now?” As Sage Vyaasa asks thus, Duryodhana replies, “Oh Sage! I’m going for an all-out war with the Paandava brothers. I’m going to ensure that they are killed and this would completely solve all my hurdles that I’m undergoing currently!” As Duryodhana replies thus, Sage Vyaasa asks back: “Oh Duryodhana! You would not be able to do that. If at all you try for it, you would be killed then and there!”

As Sage Vyaasa thunders thus, Duryodhana is shocked at one side, and also is raging with anger on the other. He now thinks that Sage Vyaasa is a stumbling block in front of him, trying to prevent his pursuit. Duryodhana angrily replies thus, “Oh Sage Vyaasa! Do you think I’m powerless? I shall definitely kill the Paandava brothers for all what they’ve done to me and my brothers. I shall definitely avenge them. I would make sure that they are burnt down to ashes within minutes!” As Duryodhana storms with his claim Karna also joins him thus, “Oh Sage Vyaasa! Let me tell you something – I’ll be able to single handedly kill Arjuna with all my sharp arrows aimed at his head! Please do not underestimate me or Duryodhana or any of us here. If the Paandavas are capable of waging a battle, we are also no less than them! We are also equally or more powerful than the five of them put together!”

As Duryodhana and Karna make tall claims thus, Sage Vyaasa laughs out! In fact, he doesn’t know whether to laugh or to cry! He replies to Duryodhana thus, “Oh Duryodhana! Did I even say that you would be killed by the Paandavas? Why are you assuming things that I never told you? What makes you so insecure? I never told you or Karna that Arjuna and Yudishtra would kill you. I never told you that they would take weapons to fight against you. But please understand – If you go ahead to kill them, you would not even be able to reach the spot where the Paandavas are staying. Even before you reach there, you will be killed!” As Sage Vyaasa thunders thus, Duryodhana is shocked beyond words! He replies thus, “Oh Sage Vyaasa! How can you say that I would be killed while on the way to the forest? Aren’t we capable of killing the wild animals, etc. that would come our way? Aren’t we trained to handle all these? Aren’t we experts in hunting? We would be able to destroy any obstacle that comes our way!”

Again as Duryodhana says thus, Sage Vyaasa gets amused! He replies thus, “Oh Duryodhana! Again you’re mistaking my words – I never told you that you are not an expert in hunting or killing wild animals that might come your way. I never told you that you would be killed by wild animals or any other things that are in the forest. The point that I want to make to you is this – You are following the path of “Adharma”, which is extremely dangerous. If you’re going with this mindset, certainly the “Dharma” which Yudishtra is following, would finish you off in no time! You can never stand in front of “Dharma” even for a moment, if you’re not following it. You are at the moment, an embodiment of “Adharma”, and this is enough to destroy you! Thus, neither the wild animals in the forest, nor Yudishtra or Arjuna themselves are your enemies. Your biggest enemy is the “Dharma” that Yudishtra is following! You would never be able to fight and win over “Dharma” at any time!”

These words of Sage Vyaasa annoys Duroydhana beyond words. At the same time, since these words come from a great sage, he becomes thoughtful too! So what is going to be Duryodhana’s next course of action? Is he still going to go ahead and fight with the Paandava brothers, or is he going to retreat? Or, is he even going to think of mending his ways since Sage Vyaasa himself has flagged the red signal in person? We shall wait till the next episode to find out! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 379 – Duryodhana, Karna & Sahuni prepare for an all out assault on Yudishtra & Co.!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Duryodhana conspiring to kill the Paandava brothers in the forest itself, so that he could shut Vidura’s mouth once and forever! Duryodhana is now fed up with Vidura taking sides of Yudishtra every now and then. Now that Vidura is back in business, Duryodhana is wary that he would again influence and “misguide” his father in such a way that everything would turn against him. Thus, in order to put an end to this never-ending saga, Duryodhana decides that he has had enough! He now thinks of putting Yudishtra and Co. to death through some ways or means. He opens up this topic with the others in his camp, wherein Sahuni and Karna did not straightaway accept his stance. There is a brainstorming session that follows, and Sahuni and Karna have their say in this matter.

Sahuni explains his stance thus, “Oh Duryodhana! Your idea seems fine, but I don’t think it is necessary at this stage. I’m saying this because Yudishtra is a person who never goes back on his words. He has given us the assurance that he would not return back to the kingdom for the next twelve years. Hence, I don’t think there’s any possibility for him to go back on his words. Moreover, if at all he comes back, we would once again call him for yet another game of gambling and I shall make him lose yet again. If we call him for the game, Yudishtra wouldn’t deny the invitation. He would still come to us, and as we’ve witnessed earlier also, I’m ready to make him lose “n” number of times! So please do not worry! Things are perfectly under control at the moment!” As Sahuni says thus, Duryodhana thinks for a while and replies back, “Oh uncle! Whatever you’re saying is perfectly correct! But my problem here is twofold – Firstly, even if Yudishtra comes back and if we plan the gambling game, what if my father objects? The problem here is that Vidura is a stumbling block for all of us. On the pretext of “Dharma”, Vidura would brainwash my father and make him take a stance that such gambling games would not be encouraged. My father literally took that stance last time, but somehow I managed to reverse it. But I do not know if it would be possible to do that every time! Moreover, why should we wait for twelve years for Yudishtra to come back? Or, to be more precise, why at all should we encourage Yudishtra to come back even today or tomorrow? Let us put an end to this saga completely once and for all! That would solve all our problems completely, isn’t it?”

As Duryodhana opines thus, Karna too has his say. Karna says thus, “Oh Duryodhana! The idea of killing Yudishtra and Co. now itself seems fine. But how would you work out the modus-operandi for that? Do you think it’s easy? If we’ve to go there and kill them, they would also fight back and a war would erupt, wouldn’t it? Then what is the point in conducting the gambling game, winning over it without even a single drop of blood being shed? That was the assurance you had given to your father at the start of the game, isn’t it? However, I’m not saying that you should not go on the offensive. But what I’m saying here is that, we’ve to be calculative in our approach at this moment!”

Whatever Karna says is correct, which is also acknowledged by Duryodhana. However, Duryodhana is sad. He wanted his people to be ready for the challenge, instead of giving reasons for not going for it. He replies to both of them thus, “Oh Sahuni uncle and Karna! Whatever both of you are saying to me are all correct. I totally agree! But I’m somehow having that feeling that we should go and finish them off right away. I’m not very comfortable with the idea of leaving the situation to the last moment after the end of twelve years. If something happens at that point, and if we’re not able to control the situation then, we would ultimately be losers, isn’t it? I do not want Yudishtra to win even after the twelve year period. He should never ever rule the kingdom even for a single day in his life henceforth. We should ensure that it happens and Yudishtra is finished off completely!”

As Duryodhana replies with this intent, sadness and frustration is written all over his face! Upon seeing Duryodhana’s sad face, Karna and Sahuni decided that they should live up to his expectation. Immediately, both of them stood up and got themselves dressed up with all the armour and weapons in their hands. They were ready to go for an all-out pursuit to kill Yudishtra and Co. Duchaasana and the others follow suit as well! Hence, a lot of commotion happens at Hastinapura as the young warriors make their way out of the palace one by one.

So for today, let us understand up to this point, and in the next episode we shall witness what happened next. Did Duryodhana and Co. manage to reach the forest and pick up a fight with Yudishtra? Let us wait till the next episode to find out! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 378 – Duryodhana conspires to kill Pandavas in the forest to shut Vidura’s mouth forever!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Vidura’s return to Hastinapura and the subsequent storm that rakes up amongst the Duryodhana camp! Duryodhana fumes with anger and frustration yet again, who, till that point in time, was extremely relieved with Vidura’s exit from Hastinapura. Duryodhana alerts Duchaasana, Sahuni and the others and asks them to be very watchful. He is wary that Yudishtra and Co. might launch some similar operation to reclaim Indraprastha and even capture Hastinapura as well. Duryodhana is also wary that his father would yet again fall into Vidura’s trap of “Dharma”, and that, Vidura would completely “misguide” and “brainwash” his father completely to listen only to his words! With this, the insecurity feeling that Duryodhana had within him also sees a meteoric rise yet again. With all these things lingering in his mind, Duryodhana bursts out in front of Sahuni and the others and gives a “new definition” to “Dharma”. According to Duryodhana, “Dharma” is something that can be equated directly to “Victory” (Jayam), through any means possible! Even if it warrants to take the illegitimate path to win over someone, one should go ahead and do it – This is Duryodhana’s philosophy. Also, this is something that all of us have to introspect within ourselves as well in the present day context.

This is where we should think for a moment – Is the world existing with our will and wish, or is it existing according to Bhagawan’s will and wish? Of course, all of us are going to accept the fact that Bhagawan is the one who controls the entire world and all its actions. None of us are going to deny this fact. However, the irony here is that, even with this basic understanding, we still keep performing all our actions in such a way that we take credit for whatever is happening. Little do we remember in the quick of our actions that Bhagawan is the one who is guiding us at every moment. If Bhagawan thinks for a moment that the entire world should come to a standstill, it can happen within seconds isn’t it? An earthquake or a tsunami from nowhere can happen within a jiffy and lakhs of people can die within a second! Till the previous moment, we might have been thinking that we’re the kings and queens of the entire world with all our wealth and luxuries. But within the next five to ten minutes, we might just become paupers and all our wealth and luxuries would be destroyed / washed away right in front of our eyes! We’ve witnessed this many times in many places around the world, including in our own Bhaarata Desha, isn’t it?

Hence, the point here is that, we should always have the thought that Bhagawan is with us everytime in whatever we do. We should give that respect to Him and if we do that, we would automatically start following the legitimate path of “Dharma”. Of course we can compete with each other in this world, but we should never go to the extent of dumping others to score brownie points. We should always have this thought that our every action is being watched by Bhagawan and it would bounce on us again at any point in time. This is exactly what Duryodhana failed to understand here – He is under the impression that “Dharma” is something that is a mere philosophy and nothing else! He wants victory in whatever he does – No matter how he achieves his victory. Thus in this way, Duryodhana now goes into his next plot – To kill the Paandava brothers in the forest once and for all, so that Vidura’s mouth can be shut once and forever!

So for today, let us understand up to this point, and in the next episode, we shall witness how Duryodhana is going to strategise this intent. Of course, Sahuni and Karna had their say in this. What did they say? How did that impact Duryodhana? An interesting accor awaits us tomorrow! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 377 – Duryodhana fumes with anger as Vidura returns!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed King Dhridiraashtra repenting for his bad behaviour towards Vidura and thus, calling him back to Hastinapura. He sends Sanjaya for the task of bringing Vidura back to Hastinapura, and accordingly Sanjaya conveys King Dhridiraashtra’s message to him. He says that King Dhridiraashtra is repenting for his mistake and he wants Vidura immediately back in the palace. Acknowledging Sanjaya’s words thus, Vidura decides that he would leave back to Hastinapura, to be of assistance to King Dhridiraashtra. He bids farewell to Yudishtra and Co., assuring them that there would be a positive change very soon at Hastinapura palace because Vidura feels that King Dhridiraashtra might mend his ways and in turn mend Duryodhana’s ways as well. With this positive hope, Yudishtra too bids a teary farewell to Vidura, who then hurries along with Sanjaya to reach Hastinapura palace. Thus, when Vidura reaches Hastinapura, King Dhridiraashtra runs and welcomes him back by seeking unconditional apology for his words. Vidura too accepts King Dhridiraashtra’s apology and both of them patch up with each other again.

As this happens, the news of Vidura’s return reaches Duryodhana and Co., which shocks them! Duryodhana was heaving a sigh of relief when he learnt that Vidura had left. But now as Vidura comes back, it sends shivers to him! Thus, Duryodhana quickly calls for a meeting with all his companions – Sahuni Uncle, Duchaasana, Karna, etc. and wants to discuss the way forward and mainly how to tackle Vidura! Duryodhana talks to all of them thus, “Oh friends! Oh Sahuni Uncle! Till now I was relieved that Vidura had gone away from Hastinapura as a result of a fall out with my father. However, Vidura is back, and I do not know what had conspired in the middle between my father and him. Now that Vidura is back, he would again start his monotonous accord of “Dharma”, “Adharma”, etc. and my father would blindly believe his misguidance. Vidura is not at all concerned about me and my future. He thinks that “Dharma” is nothing but siding by Yudishtra and Co., who are listless people. He thinks that by taking sides of Yudishtra, I can be successfully sidelined, and with this, Hastinapura would be given to Yudishtra and the Paandavas. This is totally rubbish and I wouldn’t allow this to happen until my last breath!”

As the others look on, Duryodhana continues further thus, “Oh Sahuni uncle! You are an experienced person both in terms of age and knowledge, isn’t it? What is “Dharma”? Is it being cowardly by nature? Or, is it giving away anything and everything to whoever comes and asks you for it? According to me, “Dharma” is nothing but “Victory”! That victory can be through any ways and means! It can be either through legitimate war, or through illegitimate means like the gambling game which we conducted! I do not care if the path that I’m taking is legitimate or illegitimate. All I want is “Victory” and I do not care in which way it comes! Oh Sahuni Uncle and the others! I want all of you to follow my pursuit from here on, and ensure that we win over the listless Paandavas everytime they come and confront us! Now that we’ve cunningly and smartly won over us, chances are very high that they might also try something like this to get over us. We’ve to be extremely careful and watchful. Now that Vidura is also there, he would simply keep blabbering “Dharma” and “Dharma” everytime to my father! He would brainwash my father quite easily and that fool would not take my words at all! Hence, we’ve to keep a close watch on what King Dhridiraashtra does and we should make sure that he is always on our side and not by Vidura’s!”

This is not Bhagawan Krishna’s version of “Dharma”, but Duryodhana’s! 🙂 We shall understand from the above accord as to how arrogant Duryodhana is! He gives a new definition and description for “Dharma”, which we would not find in any of our “Sanaatana Dharma” literature! Even though this is the case, many of us follow many aspects of “Duryodhana’s Dharma”, as compared to “Bhagawan Krishna’s Dharma” in today’s scenario! I’m telling this with a lot of confidence because, in today’s competitive world, all our focus is on “winning” and “outsmarting” others, rather than working collaboratively and mutually living with others around us, isn’t it? Right from our academic education system to getting a job, to excelling and getting promoted in our career, and even within our own family, we keep fighting with others every passing day! Of course, we squarely put the blame on the term called “Survival” and comfortably defend ourselves, but the reality remains that we can still survive by mutually cooperating with each other and living in harmony. Of course, healthy competition is required in every field of life, but having said thus, it is not a guarantee that we would enter into dirty competitions with others. We should know where to draw the line in terms of competing with others and understanding our limitations and strengths.

This is something that all of us have to introspect within ourselves – Whether we’re following Duryodhana’s version of “Dharma” or Bhagawan Krishna’s version of “Dharma”. So for today, let us spare a thought on this point and let us think within ourselves and make an analysis of ourselves. Only if we make this self-analysis, we would be able to identify our gaps and shortcomings, which would in turn help us improve further towards our spiritual growth. We shall continue with this discussion forward in the next episode as well! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 376 – Vidura returns back to Hastinapura – King Dhridirashtra seeks unconditional apology!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed King Dhridiraashtra getting the feeling of insecurity because of Vidura’s absence at Hastinapura. He also knows internally that he is walking the path of “Adharma” so as to save his son’s face from embarrassment. Vidura is the only person whom he was banking upon for some real words of wisdom, although he is not going to listen to any of his words. Now that Vidura has gone away, even that one person who was standing like a pillar of strength, was missing, and this made King Dhridiraashtra scared! Thus, he immediately calls upon Sanjaya to somehow convince Vidura and bring him back to Hastinapura. Even though Sanjaya had his own reservations upon whether Vidura would really come back or not, King Dhridiraashtra was confident that Vidura would pay heed to his words and come back. Thus, Sanjaya takes his message and hurries to the forest where Vidura is residing.

Thus, as Sanjaya reaches Vidura’s place, he too is surprised to see Vidura and Yudishtra together! Thus, Yudishtra seeks the “Anugraha” of Sanjaya by falling on his feet and by paying all the due respects to him. As Sanjaya settles down, he conveys the message to Vidura thus, “Oh Great Vidura! I’ve come here on behalf of King Dhridiraashtra to take you back to Hastinapura. King Dhridiraashtra sent me to convey his deepest regret and apologies to you for what happened the other day. Of course, he was not in his mood when we scolded you, but he feels that it is not good if you’re not alongside him! So on behalf of King Dhridiraashtra, I humbly request you to return back to Hastinapura! Of course, I expressed my concern whether you would come back or not. However, King Dhridiraashtra is very confident that you would honour his words and request. Thus, if you are willing and ready, I shall take you back to Hastinapura. I shall wait for your decision and act accordingly!”

As Sanjaya humbly makes his submission thus, Vidura immediately replies thus, “Oh Sanjaya! The moment when our king has decided to call me back, I’m ready to come to him. If he is ready to pay heed to my words of “Dharma”, it is my duty as his able minister to render my advice. I should not run away from my duty. I shall immediately return back to Hastinapura and discharge all my duties as a minister to King Dhridiraashtra! It would be my pleasure to do so!” As Vidura replies thus, both Sanjaya and Yudishtra are surprised and happy at the same time. Yudishtra was thinking within himself thus, “Oh wow! Just now Vidura had told me that he is never going to go back to Hastinapura forever, but when Sanjaya made this request, Vidura made a complete “U-turn” in his decision! How can this be feasible?”

As Yudishtra thinks thus, Vidura immediately replies to what Yudishtra thinks! Vidura explains thus: “Oh Yudishtra! I understand your concern! You’re thinking that I’m making a “U-turn” so quickly, isn’t it? Please understand this point very clearly – If someone asks for an apology unconditionally, it is our duty to honour their words. We should never give space to our ego at this stage. This is “Dharma”. Now, King Dhridiraashtra seems to have realized his mistake and is calling me. I’ve to honour his words without fail and this is the “Dharma” for me as a minister. If I’m giving room to my ego, I would be failing in my duty. Hence, let me go back and execute my duties as a minister to King Dhridiraashtra! Let me see whether he has changed completely for good. If that happens, I would be the first person to be happy and satisfied!”

Saying thus, Vidura prepares to start back to Hastinapura, along with Sanjaya. As Vidura is about to leave, Yudishtra replies to Vidura thus, “Oh Scholarly Vidura! Thank you for all the important pieces of advice you’ve given me during your short stay with me! I’m indeed fortunate to spend some valuable time with you. Please go ahead and have a safe journey back to Hastinapura. Please ensure that you render all your words of wisdom to King Dhridiraashtra and the others, and by this, I’m sure that there would be a remarkable change for good! I have full confidence in you! I would never say that you’ve to stay along with me. You rightly belong to Hastinapura and Hastinapura needs your presence! Hence, please go ahead and convey my regards to all people there! Please take care of my mother, Kunthi Devi and the others!” As Yudishtra says thus, Vidura and Sanjaya bid farewell to Yudishtra and Co. and swiftly make their way back to Hastinapura.

As Vidura is back at Hastinapura, King Dhridiraashtra runs to meet him! He falls on Vidura’s feet with tears in his eyes and says thus, “Oh Vidura! Welcome back to Hastinapura! This is your home! I’m terribly sorry that I insulted you! At that point in time, I was in a bad temper and mood! I know that whatever you’re saying is as per the book of “Dharma”, and it is only me who is not able to understand and make sense of what you’re saying! You’re my pillar of strength and please be with me at all times!” As King Dhridiraashtra requests earnestly thus, Vidura too accepts it and both of them patch up with each other from there onwards! So for today, let us understand up to this point and in the next episode, let us witness what is happening to Duryodhana, Sahuni and the others meanwhile! Stay tuned for an interesting accord! 🙂
