In the previous episode, we had witnessed Bhagawan Bala-Krishna rising up to the occasion to save the entire Gokula from the wrath of Indra and Varuna Bhagawan. As we had seen earlier, Indra, due to his insecurity and arrogance, tried to take on Bhagawan Bala-Krishna by underestimating Him as He was a small boy. However, to the contrary, Bhagawan Bala-Krishna had other plans – He decided that Indra should be taught a befitting lesson sooner or later and that this is the best chance for it to happen. As the rains were pounding Gokula with fierce and gusting winds – Thanks to “Partner in crime”, Varuna Bhagawan, Bhagawan Bala-Krishna escorted the entire Gokula village towards the Govardhana Mountain, lifted the mountain with His single finger and brought all of them under it. Thus, we had witnessed yesterday how the Govardhana Mountain served as a shelter for the people and animals of Gokula village from the staggering rains and winds. This is where we’re currently worshipping Bhagawan Bala-Krishna through this episode of the divine “Krishna-Leela” as Bhagwan Govardhana-Giri-dhaari”! 🙂
As this was happening, people were all in awe and were shell-shocked to see Bhagawan Bala-Krishna, the little boy balancing a huge mountain with just a single finger. However, as the situation demanded, they were freezing with the cold winds and all of them were fully drenched in the rain and this gave them a warm shelter. Thus, Bhagawan Bala-Krishna ensured that He sheltered all His ardent devotees under the huge Govardhana mountain.
We can worship this sacred Govardhana Mountain even today – As we proceed to Mathura, a beautiful city around 50 kms from Delhi, India’s national capital, we would encounter the banks of the holy River Yamuna. On the other bank of the river is the famed Gokula village wherein Bhagawan Bala-Krishna spent all His childhood. On one end, we would be able to find a small cliff adjoining the Gokula village and this very cliff is the sacred Govardhana Mountain, which Bhagawan Bala-Krishna had lifted in His small finger to save the village. Thus, we’ve to make sure that when we visit Mathura, Gokula and Vrindavan, we should never miss this divine place from being worshipped.
As this was happening, the people of Gokula slowly started coming back to their normal self and they still are under the umbrella of the Govardhana Mountain. At this time, all the friends of Bhagawan Bala-Krishna were in awe and proud of Him. They innocently ask Him thus, “Oh Krishna! How’re you able to hold this huge mountain in your small finger? Isn’t it paining for you? For a moment why don’t you keep it down and take some rest? Moreover, this act of yours isn’t an ordinary one. You’re not an ordinary child like how all of us are. So please tell us who you are!” As the kids innocently ask thus with tears in their eyes, Bhagawan Bala-Krishna too was moved by their ardent devotion and gratitude. He now has to give a reply to these kids, but at the same time, He shouldn’t reveal His true identity to them. What does Bhagawan Krishna say here?
He says, thus, “Oh my dear friends! Please do not differentiate me from all of you! I’m one amongst you, isn’t it? We’re all of the same age group and from the same village. If that’s the case, how do you differentiate me from all of you? By doing so, you’re all trying to isolate me from the group. I always want to be one amongst you and we should happily play with each other! So please do not utter sentences like that again. Moreover, it was just the blessings of the Govardhana Mountain that I’m able to lift it. I did not do anything here! All the offerings that were made to the Govardhana Mountain are bearing fruit now. Thus, I do not have any significant role to play in this!”
As Bhagawan Bala-Krishna says thus, the kids are extremely overjoyed and happy! All of them surround Him and raise slogans of victory over the rains and winds that are still continuing to lash Gokula! As this was happening, Indra clearly realizes at this stage that he has been stumped and overpowered by this so-called “little boy”, whom he had underestimated earlier. There’s no use of pounding the village with rains anymore, with all of them safe and secure under the Govardhana Mountain. Afterall, the rains weren’t going to penetrate the mountain at any cost. Hence, Indra and Varuna realize their folly and decide to seek forgiveness to Bhagawan Bala-Krishna! What happens next? Let’s wait till the next episode to find out! Stay tuned! 🙂
