Episode # 724 – “Yudishtra is firm on his ‘Dharma’”! – Sanjaya explains to King Dhritarashtra!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed the continuation of Yudishtra’s final and concluding remarks and messages that he wants to convey through Sanjaya to King Dhritarashtra, Bhishmachaarya, and the likes at Hastinapura. The message to King Dhritarashtra is very clear – If he takes sides towards Duryodhana and neglect Yudishtra, the entire Kaurava clan is going to face extinction very soon. In similar lines, Yudishtra conveys to Bhishmachaarya that he has to live up to the expectation as a “Pita-Maha” wherein his guidance is important for everyone. Similarly to Vidura, who is an epitome of “Dharma”, Yudishtra sends a message that Vidura should always stand by “Dharma” at any cost, and should guide King Dhritarashtra along the path of “Dharma” at each and every moment. In similar lines, Yudishtra is conveying individual messages to individual people and we shall continue this in today’s episode as well.

Moving on thus, the message is now for Duryodhana. Yudishtra says thus, “Oh Sanjaya! My message to Duryodhana is very simple – Please request him to give some respect to elders. Please request him to listen to the words of the elders like Bhishmachaarya, Guru Dhronachaarya and Vidura and ask him to sit with them and learn the “Dharma” that he has to follow as a Kshatrya prince. Duryodhana is behaving this way only because he is completely devoid of “Dharma” in him. If he spends some time constructively with the elders at Hastinapura, chances are bright that he would be able to mend his ways in a positive direction and subsequently the war can be avoided. Oh Sanjaya! Even now it is not too late. I have confidence in you that you would be able to act swiftly and smartly and possibly avoid a disaster in the making!”

We are witnessing a very important context here – “Dharma” is very simple in nature and is very easy to follow as well. Whatever Yudishtra is saying here is nothing complicated. All that Duryodhana has to do is to part his kingdom equally with Yudishtra, and if he is doing so as per the “Raaja-Dharma”, everything would have been resolved and the entire kingdom would have been extremely prosperous. But it is Duryodhana who is neglecting this offer from Yudishtra and is complicating things. Normally, the path of “Dharma” is extremely simple and is like a very thin line. It is up to us to maintain the simplicity and catch hold of that thin line and attain “Moksha” with Bhagawan’s divine “Anugraha”. However, the problem starts when we refuse to follow that thin line. Hence, let us think over this and ponder within ourselves!

Moving on further, Sanjaya takes all these messages from Yudishtra and leaves for Hastinapura, even as King Dhritarashtra is anxiously waiting for his arrival. King Dhritarashtra is thinking within himself thus, “Oh! Why is this Sanjaya taking so long to return? I hope things would have been smooth and Yudishtra would have come to a compromise by now. Sanjaya is very smart. He knows how to tackle complex situations and break them down into simple ones!” We can see the selfish nature of King Dhritarashtra clearly here – Why is King Dhritarashtra anxious? It is not because he is concerned about the welfare of Yudishtra and Co.! The anxiety is for whether his own agenda is getting fulfilled or not! This is where all the problems start! If King Dhritarashtra had performed the balancing act correctly, things would have been much better, isn’t it?

Now, as King Dhritarashtra is waiting, Sanjaya marks his arrival! As Sanjaya arrives, King Dhritarashtra runs towards him, welcomes him and enquires the status of things straightaway! Sanjaya replies to King Dhritarashtra thus, “Oh King! I had conveyed your message to Yudishtra and the Paandava brothers. What I observed is that Yudishtra is still sticking to his “Dharma”. His compassion knows no bounds. Yudishtra is very firm in his stance. However, you and your son are also very firm in your stance as well and this is something to ponder over for both of you!”

As Sanjaya says thus, King Dhritarashtra is extremely happy! He is happy because he did not understand the “Sookshama” of Sanjaya’s message! According to King Dhritarashtra, “Dharma” for Yudishtra is nothing but leaving everything and running away to the forest and compromising everytime. This has happened over the past thirteen years, isn’t it? Hence, King Dhritarashtra expects the same from Yudishtra again and again! So for today, let us understand up to this point and we shall continue this discussion further in the next episode! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 723 – “If you side by Duryodhana, Hastinapura would become shambles!” – Yudishtra’s message to King Dhritarashtra!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed some important lessons that we can learn from the Yudishtra – Sanjaya conversation, wherein Bhagawan Krishna too is part of. Ultimately, the decision is very clear – Yudishtra is all for peace if Duryodhana wishes to compromise. However, if that doesn’t happen, Yudishtra is ready for an all-out assault as well, as he feels that protecting the territory is the “Dharma” of a righteous king. Hence, the argument of Sanjaya that fighting a war which leads to loss of thousands of lives on the battlefield being gross “Adharma” doesn’t stand to be relevant. Even if thousands of people die on the battlefield, they are attaining the ‘Veera-Svarga” (Sacrificing their lives for the sake of the country), and that is also perfectly their “Dharma” only! Hence, in either ways, whatever Yudishtra says seems to be perfectly the path towards “Dharma” and after this, Sanjaya couldn’t talk much. Bhagawan Krishna too gives His verdict that Yudishtra’s stance is right and there can never be any dispute to it. Bhagawan recalls the infamous gambling game and how Draupati was insulted during that fateful day and for these acts of “Adharma” committed by Duryodhana, how can these go unanswered? Hence, the game plan is now very clear from the Paandavas’ side.

Moving on further thus, as Sanjaya leaves for Hastinapura, Yudishtra is still not letting him go. He once again wants to convey something to Sanjaya and calls him back. Yudishtra is now going to give messages to all people at Hastinapura, including his own mother, Kunthi Devi, Bhishmacharya, Guru Dhronachaarya, etc. Yudishtra’s first message is for King Dhritarashtra. He says thus, “Oh Sanjaya! Please convey to King Dhritarashtra this message from my end – Oh King! It is upon your discretion that Duryodhana has got the kingdom of Hastinapura which he is enjoying right now. However, I’m also part of the same clan as him. Myself and my four brothers (Paandavas) are also part of the Kuru-Vamsa (Kauravas). Hence, as a king, you should be responsible enough to broker peace and unity between all of us, rather than fuelling one camp against the other. If you continue doing so, please understand that your entire next generation would be wiped out of this world and there will be nobody to rule Hastinapura henceforth! The entire kingdom would go into shambles and post that, it would be very difficult to retrieve its glory. Oh Sanjaya! Please convey this message to King Dhritarashtra!”

Next, Yudishtra conveys a message to Bhishmachaarya. He says thus, “Oh Sanjaya! Why is Bhishmachaarya having the boon that he can decide the time of his death? It is only to ensure that all the family members including King Dhritarashtra, Duryodhana, Yudishtra (Myself), etc. are content and happy, isn’t it? Isn’t it Bhishmachaarya’s responsibility to ensure that all the people in the kingdom are acting as per the “Dharma” and guiding the kingdom properly? Hence, Bhishmachaarya should be reminded of this. If he continues to be inactive and if he is turning deaf ears to what King Dhritarashtra and Duryodhana are saying, the kingdom will go to ruins! Hence, as a senior pro in the family, he should step up and rise to the occasion, isn’t it? Oh Sanjaya! Please convey this clearly to Bhishmachaarya!”

Next in the list is Vidura! Yudishtra tells Sanjaya thus, “Oh Sanjaya! All of us know that Vidura is an epitome of “Dharma”, don’t we? Hence, Vidura should live up to that expectation and should always keep teaching and preaching the “Dharma” to King Dhritarashtra. Even if the king deviates from the path of “Dharma”, Vidura should lead from the front in bringing him back to the path. Hence, Oh Sanjaya! Please convey my regards to Vidura and tell him on behalf of me that no matter whoever tells what, he should always stick to the path of “Dharma” and advise King Dhritarashtra in this way!”

So for today, let us understand up to this point, and in the next episode, we shall continue this discussion further! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 722 – Satisfying our ego or maintaining our relationships – Which is important?

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Sanjaya getting ready to leave back to Hastinapura to convey the message given by Yudishtra to King Dhritarashtra. Yudishtra’s stance is very clear, as we’ve seen earlier. Finally as Sanjaya leaves, Yudishtra holds his hands with great respect and bids farewell to him by saying that even though he might differ in opinions, his respect towards Sanjaya is always intact. Bhagawan Krishna too appreciates Yudishtra’s gesture and sends Sanjaya off by providing His divine “Anugraha”. We also have a very important lesson to learn here, as we’ve discussed yesterday. Even though we might be having differences of opinion with others, should we move on with it or should we entirely cut off our relationship with them? This is where many people go wrong with regards to relationships as well. We shall discuss this point further as we move on from here.

As Yudishtra displays this gesture, Sanjaya too is extremely happy as he leaves for Hastinaupra. This is the gross difference between Yudishtra and Duryodhana here too – Yudishtra knows how to move on with people by respecting them on a personal basis. However, Duryodhana is only interested in encouraging more and more gaps in relationships as we’ve seen multiple times. It is not only with Yudishtra and Co. is Duryodhana exhibiting such behavior. Even with his own people like Bhishmachaarya, Guru Dhronachaarya, etc. Duryodhana behaves the same way. We’ve seen instances wherein Duryodhana publicly abuses Bhishmachaarya to be a coward, just because he has a difference in opinion with Duryodhana. Similarly, when Guru Dhronachaarya once appeals to give up on the war and settle things amicably with Yudishtra and Co., Duryodhana fumes in anger and abuses him straightaway, without even having the basic courtesy that Dhronachaarya is his own Guru (Teacher)! This is the mistake many of us make as well! Just because someone tells something, we keep building gaps with that person and finally this leads to the complete breakdown of the relationship itself! We see this happening in many families – Differences of opinion between parents and children, husband and wife, between two brothers or two sisters and between friends as well! Now the question here is why such things happen very frequently today!

The major reason behind such behavior today is that, with time we’ve developed so much intolerance towards others! We’ve lost patience listening to what people say. We’re only interested in imposing our thoughts and opinions on others and little do we care to understand that the others too have their own opinions and thought processes similar to ours!  Moreover, if someone always talks in favour of whatever we say, we’re very happy and would go with them. However, the moment someone differs with us in opinions and thoughts, we would immediately try and shut them out! The process doesn’t end there – The intolerance goes on and on to such an extent that we entirely brand people with differences in opinions as our “enemies”! We completely stop talking with them, or we even go to the extent of abusing and insulting them in public. This is exactly what Duryodhana is doing to his people here. Hence, we’ve to think which is more important – Satisfying our ego or maintaining our relationships? Thus, by going through this episode, we should think and introspect within ourselves and find out ways to increase our patience and tolerance levels. We should be patient enough to hear out the other person’s different perspective about things. By doing so, we achieve two things – One is, this is an opportunity for us to have a holistic approach towards the problem or issue at hand, as all of us have human limitations. Our brain has only a limited capability to think and make decisions. However, if we join hands with multiple people as a team and work towards an issue at hand, we might get multiple solutions to solve the issue, isn’t it? Let us think about it!

Moreover, if we’re displaying patience to listen to others’ views, it raises the level of confidence and trust that others will have towards us. By listening to them, we are communicating a subtle message to them that they can express themselves freely to us without any prejudice or bias. Hence, we get a true picture of whatever is happening. Thus, in either ways, developing tolerance and patience to listen to others and respect their opinions is a good practice, both personally and professionally, and this is exactly what Yudishtra is doing here to Sanjaya as well! Hence for today, let us ponder over this important point and let us try and implement this slowly and steadily in our lives as well! We shall wait till the next episode to witness what happened at Hastinapura after the arrival of Sanjaya! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 721 – “Even though we differ in opinions, my respect for you stays forever!” – Yudishtra tells Sanjaya!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Bhagawan Krishna giving some decisive messages on behalf of Yudishtra to Sanjaya. The message is loud and clear here to Duryodhana – Compromise and give Indraprastha to Yudishtra or face a disastrous war which would have severe consequences! Bhagawan Krishna in due course of the conversation with Sanjaya also recalls how Duryodhana and Karna had earlier committed serious crimes upon Draupati by insulting her in public during the infamous gambling game episode! Bhagawan Krishna angrily asks Sanjaya in what way it is “Dharma” for Yudishtra to compromise at this stage, even after so many things have happened! Hence, the decision is clear – Even now it is not too late for Duryodhana. If he is ready to apologize and come for a compromise, Yudishtra will still accept him as per the “Raaja-Dharma”. If he doesn’t, Yudishtra will be ready to fight a war, and this too is as per the “Raaja-Dharma” only!

Hearing patiently thus, Sanjaya decides that it is time to go back to Hastinapura. As Sanjaya is about to leave, Yudishtra, Bheemasena, Arjuna and even Bhagawan Krishna stand up in respect to the great man! In return, Sanjaya falls on Bhagawan Krishna’s divine lotus feet, seeking His divine “Anugraha”. Bhagawan Krishna too provides Sanjaya the same and as he is about to leave, Yudishtra comes forward with folded hands and says thus, “Oh my dear Sanjaya! I appreciate your effort to come all the way to us and talk on behalf of Duryodhana and King Dhritarashtra. Even though we had differences in opinions with you on certain things, please do not mistake my words if they were harsh or hurting you in any way. You’ve done your job perfectly as a messenger to King Dhritarashtra. Even though some of your words might not have been acceptable to me or to Bhagawan Krishna, please understand that our love and affection for you is the same. I respect you a lot for all the “Dharma” you are scholarly in. I would want to sit with you and learn a lot from your experiences and learning. Hence, please do not mistake me for my “Prathi-Vaadam” that I’ve done with you. Please go back safely and convey my regards to King Dhritarashtra and the others at Hastinapura! Oh Sanjaya! You should never forget us when you go back to Hastinapura! Whenever you get time, please come and visit us, and we would be glad to host you and learn a lot of aspects of “Dharma” from you!”

This is a very important learning for all of us here – Even though Yudishtra might not be in agreeable terms with whatever Sanjaya says, we’ve to understand how Yudishtra treats Sanjaya with a lot of respect and dignity. This is very important. We might have so many communication gaps or differences of opinions with people, but our basic respect and care for them should never take a hit. Many a time, we get into this mistake – The moment we have a war of words with someone, we would immediately shut all doors with them in terms of the basic aspects of a relationship as well. We wouldn’t even turn our heads and walk away from them, just because they did not concur with whatever we tell them. Is this a right practice to do? We’ve to think about this! Hence for today, let us understand this point very clearly and let us ponder upon how we can take Yudishtra’s example into our lives as well! Stay tuned for more updates in the next episode! 🙂

Episode # 720 – “How can Duryodhana’s heinous crimes go unchecked?” – Bhagawan Krishna fumes to Sanjaya!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Bhagawan Krishna giving His final statement on the issue of the war which is becoming more and more inevitable as time progresses. As Duryodhana is not willing to mend his ways at all, Sanjaya tries to convince Yudishtra to sacrifice, which in turn could avoid the disastrous war between both the camps. However, Yudishtra is not in a mood to give in easily this time. He asserts that it is his “Dharma” to fight a war and defend his kingdom, rather than performing Tapas everytime, which is the “Dharma” of a Brahmana Rishi and not of a Kshatrya king. As Yudishtra explains his stance this way, Bhagawan Krishna too concurs with whatever Yudishtra says. He tells Sanjaya decisively that if Duryodhana doesn’t mend his ways even now, war is inevitable and he has to face mass destruction. Even now it is not too late and if Duryodhana repents, Yudishtra and Co. are ready to broker peace and settle things amicably. Rather, if Duryodhana doesn’t want to relent, there is no other option but to go for an all-out assault.

Moreover, Bhagawan Krishna now says something to Sanjaya, which is applicable to all of us as well! Bhagawan Krishna continues His accord thus, “Oh Sanjaya! All living beings in this world are bound by their “Karma” that they bring into the world along with their birth. There is no escape from the “Karma” that they accumulate and bring. Yudishtra, Bheemasena, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva, Duryodhana, Ducchaasana, etc. are not exceptional people in this regard. All of them have their own “Karma” and they’ve to perform their duties assigned to each of them. There is no escape from this. Hence, if there is a war, all of them should stand up and fight! This is their “Karma”! Thus, “Karma-Yoga” is the best way to attain “Moksha” and going through the path of “Gnyaana Yoga” as you are mentioning is extremely tough. Nobody can attain “Moksha” through “Gnyaana Yoga”, barring a very few people. All beings have no other option but to go through the “Karma Yoga” process to attain the highest “Moksha”. Oh Sanjaya! Please remember one thing clearly – I’m the only one in this world who is untouched by “Karma”! I’m the “Paramatman” and “Karma” can never come near a “Paramatman”. However, for all the others, “Karma” binds them. Hence, if fighting a war is the duty of both Duryodhana and Yudishtra, let them perform it! Let us not stop them from executing their “Karma”! Oh Sanjaya! You are saying that Yudishtra should go on a Tapas and penance and reach “Moksha”. Let me tell you one thing very clearly – Yudishtra will never be able to succeed if he takes that path! He would fail miserably if he goes into that path, because of the fact that this is not his destiny. As Yudishtra is a Kshatrya, his path is to fight and defend his country, and this is his “Karma”! Hence, I fail to see the logic behind your argument!”

As Bhagawan Krishna says thus, He continues further -”Oh Sanjaya! So please go back to Hastinapura and convey this message very clearly to King Dhritarashtra and the fickle-minded Duryodhana. Please tell them that Bhagawan Krishna and Yudishtra are firmly of the opinion that they should not “steal” the kingdom of Yudishtra by any means and this is against the “Raaja-Dharma”! Only cowards do such heinous acts! If Duryodhana really wants to annex Indraprastha, he should fight a legitimate war against Yudishtra and get it into his fold, rather than resorting to dirty tricks like this to cheat Yudishtra! Oh Sanjaya! You’ve to understand one more thing – Do you remember what Duryodhana and Karna did during that infamous episode of the gambling game? Both of them behaved so indecently with Draupati on that fateful day, didn’t they? If I would have been there in person on that day at Hastinapura courtroom, things would have been very different and Duryodhana and Co. would have been history long back! How dare they keep their wretched hands on a “Pathivratha” called Draupati? These acts of bad “Karma” and “Adharma” cannot go unanswered by all of them! Even though I wasn’t there in person, it was only because of my timely help of extending Draupati’s saree, was she saved from a major embarrassment! How can these crimes go unchecked? There should be an answer for all these, isn’t it? Hence, go and tell King Dhritarashtra that Yudishtra and Co. are getting ready to avenge all these heinous crimes that were committed against them in the past!”

As Bhagawan Krishna says thus, He becomes angry and all of them who are around Him, including Sanjaya try to gather around Him and console Him! Taking this stern message with him, Sanjaya thus commences his journey towards Hastinapura! So for today, let us understand up to this point and in the next episode, we shall continue this discussion further! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 719 – “If Duryodhana doesn’t mend his ways, war is inevitable!” – Bhagawan Krishna asserts!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Yudishtra taking a firm stance of going for a war if required, to redeem his Indraprastha kingdom. This stance comes at a time when Sanjaya is trying to convince Yudishtra to go for a sacrifice in various different ways. Ultimately, Sanjaya’s argument here is that, going for a war is completely an act of “Adharma”. However, Yudishtra differs in this statement of Sanjaya’s. Yudishtra explains that even though war might be disaatrous and “Adharmic” in nature, as a “Kshatrya”, war is part and parcel of life! If peace is not working out, the next alternative is none other than a war! Hence, if Duryodhana doesn’t want to sacrifice, he has no other option but to face a war, for which, Yudishtra asserts that he and his brothers are prepared to face the eventuality.

As this exchange of conversations is going on, Bhagawan Krishna intervenes and concludes this. We shall now witness what Bhagawan Krishna has to say. Bhagawan says to Sanjaya thus, “Oh Sanjaya! You’ve performed your duty as a messenger to perfection! I’ve been patiently listening to all the arguments, both from your end as well as from Yudishtra’s end. Oh Sanjaya! Do you think that you’re an epitome of “Dharma”? Do you think that you’ve got all the expertise in the subject of “Dharma”? The way in which you’re putting forth your points suggests to me that you’ve somehow mastered the subject of “Dharma”! Do you feel that you know “Dharma” more than me and Yudishtra?” As Bhagawan Krishna asks thus in a huffed manner, Sanjaya starts to shake with fear! Did he say anything wrong? Why is Bhagawan getting irked all of a sudden?

Thus, as Bhagawan Krishna puts forth a question in this manner, Sanjaya becomes a bit uncomfortable as he folds his hands in respect to Bhagawan Krishna! Sanjaya surrenders himself to Bhagawan Krishna’s divine lotus feet and replies back thus, “Oh Bhagawan Krishna! Please do not take me wrong! My profound apologies to you if I had told something that hurt both of you! Till date, I’ve never thought even for a single moment that I know everything! I’ve only performed my duty as a messenger to King Dhritarashtra. I only tried to convey his intentions and message in whatever way possible. King Dhritarashtra doesn’t favour a war, but he wants his son Duryodhana to succeed him to the throne. He has no intention to give Yudishtra an opportunity, fearing a huge backlash from Duryodhana! Hence, oh Bhagawan! What do I do at this stage? I know whatever King Dhritarashtra is doing is gross “Adharma”. But I’m helpless about it. I’ve tried convincing him many times. Vidura is also trying his best to bring King Dhritarashtra out of the path of “Adharma”. However, nothing seems to work at this point in time. Hence, instead of convincing King Dhritarashtra and Duryodhana for a compromise, I thought it might be a good idea to convince Yudishtra to go for a compromise to save the face of the Hastinapura kingdom! Oh Bhagawan! If I have said anything wrong, please accept my apologies!”

Saying thus, Sanjaya is in tears and falls on Bhagawan’s feet! Upon seeing this, Bhagawan lifts Sanjaya up, consoles him and says thus, “Oh Sanjaya! You’ve always been on the path of “Dharma” and I know that very well. You are an innocent and a straightforward person and this is something that all of us including myself, Yudishtra and the others are aware of. This is the reason why we respect you a lot! Oh Sanjaya! I have great personal regard for you! Please do not mistake me for my words! However, if you ask me what is “Dharma” and “Adharma” in this context, Yudishtra’s “Dharma” will always be to fight a war if the need arises! There can never be a compromise on this. You would be knowing how much suffering Yudishtra had to undergo for the past many years. Yudishtra has compromised and sacrificed enough. In fact, I would say that Yudishtra has already gone overboard to sacrifice things for Duryodhana. However, if Duryodhana doesn’t realize all this, he has no other option but to meet the Paandavas in the battlefield! Hence, my dear Sanjaya! Please go back to King Dhritarashtra and convey this message to him very clearly. Yudishtra is still giving Duryodhana an opportunity to correct himself and mend his ways. Even now if he fails to do so, war is inevitable!”

Saying thus, Bhagawan Krishna consoles the deeply-hurt Sanjaya and provides him with His divine “Anugraha”! As Sanjaya receives Bhagawan Krishna’s grace, he gets more clarity on what is going on and with this, he now makes his way back to King Dhritarashtra. So for today, let us understand up to this point and in the next episode, we shall witness what Sanjaya has to tell King Dhritarashtra, who is waiting anxiously for his arrival! Stay tuned for more updates! 🙂

Episode # 718 – “Fighting a war if necessary is part of my “Dharma”!” – Yudishtra’s firm stance!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Yudishtra taking a firm stance that he would stand for peace, only if the Indraprastha kingdom would be given back to him by Duryodhana. If that doesn’t happen, there is no other option but to go for a war. Even though Sanjaya tries to convince Yudishtra that going for a war might be a gross “Adharma” that would happen to several thousand families and it should be avoided. However, what Sanjaya also said here is very important – War should be avoided “at any cost”! This means that Yudishtra has to keep sacrificing everytime and Duryodhana will rule the roost! This is something that irks Yudishtra and he takes a firm stance that as a “Kshatrya” king, it is his duty to fight a war and win over enemies, in a bid to defend the territorial borders of the kingdom. Hence, Yudishtra explains that war too is part of his “Dharma” and if required, he will not go back from performing his “Dharma”.

As Yudishtra says thus, Sanjaya listens carefully to his words. Sanjaya once again tries to convince Yudishtra thus, “Oh Yudishtra! You are an epitome of “Dharma” and you’ve accumulated so much of “Dharma” behind your name. You’ve learnt all the Vedas thoroughly! You’re a great scholar as well! Just think for a moment – You’re an epitome of sacrifice and you’ve sacrificed a lot in the past too! You’ve taken up “Vana-Vaasam” for thirteen years and have sacrificed your kingdom and your prime life for Duryodhana to be happy. Now also, maybe if you continue sacrificing and thereby if a war can be avoided in that way, it would be a great achievement for you, isn’t it? The entire world would praise you for your immense sacrifice and it would be a testimony for your “Vairagya” and the sense of detachment!”

As Sanjaya says thus, Yudishtra counters him again: “Oh Sanjaya! Whatever you’re saying is right. I’ve performed all my “Dharma” till today. However, if I sacrifice now at this stage, it would be a gross “Adharma” and it would join my book which is full of “Dharma”! Hence, I beg to differ from your thought process that sacrificing and compromising to Duryodhana is “Dharma”. I feel that if I do so, I’ll be doing a gross “Adharma” to my kingdom and to my people. As a “Kshatrya” king, it is my “Dharma” to defend my kingdom. Even if there is a war for that, fighting the war becomes an act of “Dharma” for a king. Even if people die in the war, it would be termed as a “sacrifice towards the safety of the kingdom” and not mere killing. People will attain “Veera-Svarga” through the war, and that is also part of my “Dharma” to help my people attain it! Hence, my stance is firm here – If Duryodhana is willing to sacrifice Indraprastha and give it back to us, we’re ready to broker peace and war shall be avoided! However, if that is not the case, myself along with my brothers are well-prepared and well-equipped to fight a war with Duryodhana and reclaim our lost kingdom!

As all these conversation exchanges are happening, Bhagawan Krishna is listening patiently! As Yudishtra finishes his accord and conveys his decision firmly thus, Bhagawan Krishna stands up and wants to put an end to this conversation. He is now going to tell something very important to Sanjaya, which is to be conveyed to King Dhritarashtra. What is Bhagawan Krishna going to say? Let us wait till the next episode to find out! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 717 – “We shall stand for peace only if Indraprastha is given back to us!” – Yudishtra’s firm reply to Sanjaya!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Yudishtra taking a firm stance when it comes to Sanjaya’s request of sacrificing the kingdom for Duryodhana so as to avoid a disastrous war. Even though Yudishtra agrees with the intent that war should be avoided at any cost, he is not convinced with him being the scapegoat for it every time. For the past thirteen years or so, Yudishtra has been on the receiving end and clearly, Duryodhana is playing a ploy here. Hence, Yudishtra decides that he would now stand up for his “Dharma” of being a “Kshatrya” to somehow reclaim the Indraprastha kingdom. As Yudishtra conveys his decision crystal clearly, it is now up to Sanjaya to take a call. Let us see how Sanjaya reacts to this!

Moving on thus, as Yudishtra gives a firm reply in this manner, Sanjaya replies back: “Oh Yudishtra! I know that you would stick on to your “Dharma” no matter what! However, I’ve come here, not as an adviser to you, but as a messenger to King Dhritrarashtra. Today, I’m not in a position to talk anything further on this, and I shall convey your stance to the king as quickly as possible. Maybe at a later stage we shall have a discussion on what is right and what is wrong when the situation arises. But for now, your message seems to be making sense. Let us see how Duryodhana and Co. react to this!” As Sanjaya says thus, all the others including Bhagawan Krishna voice their opinion on Yudishtra’s stance. The collective narrative is as follows: “Oh Sanjaya! The Paandavas always stand for peace at any cost! There is no doubt about that, as war can have disastrous consequences for several generations to come. Hence, we are not interested in it. However, if this peace accord should succeed, the Indraprastha kingdom should be returned to Yudishtra and as per the agreement, Duryodhana has no right to claim it. We are very clear on this. If the peace accord has to succeed, at any cost, Yudishtra should be getting Indraprastha back! If this is not happening, the Paandavas are not shying away from a war and we are prepared to face it. This is our message to King Dhritarashtra and the others at Hastinapura!”

As Bhagawan Krishna spells out the final verdict thus, Sanjaya listens carefully to it and pays his respects towards Bhagawan Krishna. However, Sanjaya has one more argument to make here. He says thus, “Oh Yudishtra! I totally agree with your statement and stance. However, please consider this argument too while taking a decision – You’re saying that you follow your “Dharma” of ruling the kingdom and defending it as a “Kshatrya prince”. It’s fair enough and I agree. However, think in this way – As a king, you’ve to take care of your people, don’t you? Now if a war takes place and your people are dying, how will that account to “Prajaa-Rakshanam”? You’re letting your own people die on the battlefield. How will this account to your “Dharma”? If you’re avoiding the war at any cost, you’re doing a great “Prajaa-Rakshanam”, aren’t you?”

As Sanjaya says thus, Yudishtra replies back politely: “Oh great Sanjaya! I feel that your argument doesn’t seem to make sense to me. As I’ve said earlier, my “Dharma” is to protect people – Fair enough! However, at what cost? I agree that if there’s no war, there will be no loss of lives. But, as a Kshatrya, it is my “Dharma” to fight as well. If the war happens in a just and a fair manner, those who leave their lives in the battlefield will attain “Veera-Gathi” (Sacrifice of their life for their kingdom). This itself is a way of taking care of my people isn’t it? As a patriotic king, I’m motivating my people to fight for the kingdom and while this happens, people will also realize that their “Dharma” is to fight the war, if it so happens. Even if I’ve to lose my life, I would be happy to attain the “Veera-Gathi” and this is my “Dharma”! Hence, I feel that avoiding a war at any cost might not be a good idea, and if it is required, I’ve to stand up and fight! This is my “Dharma” as a “Kshatrya”!”

Saying thus, Yudishtra conveys his decision firmly! The message is loud and clear now! It is now up to Sanjaya to carry it to the other side! Let us witness this accord in the next episode! Stay tuned! 🙂

Episode # 716 – “Protecting my kingdom & people is  my ‘Dharma’ as a Kshatrya!” – Yudishtra replies Sanjaya!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed Yudishtra commencing his final accord on the entire discussion that happens between Sanjaya, Bhagawan Krishna and Saatyaki. Yudishtra is very clear in his communication as we’ve witnessed earlier as well – On the question of whether a war should happen or not, definitely Yudishtra’s answer is a resounding “No”! However, for that, someone should compromise from their stance isn’t it? Now this is where the catch comes – Till this point, we’ve witnessed enormous occasions wherein Yudishtra has sacrificed for the Kauravas – Be it from playing the gambling game, accepting a defeat in the game even if it is not Yudishtra’s fault, insult of Draupati, going on the “Vana-Vaasam” for thirteen long years, etc. Now again, the question of compromise arises and Yudishtra is firm in his decision this time – No compromise from his side! The message is loud and clear here – If Duryodhana doesn’t want a war from taking place, it is he who has to compromise! It is Duryodhana who has to return Indraprastha to Yudishtra, which he had earlier abducted!

As Yudishtra spells out in this way, Sanjaya replies back thus, “Oh Yudishtra! You’re saying that you’ve compromised for all these years, which is a fair argument. All of us have seen the intense sacrifices you’ve made for Duryodhana till date and there’s no doubt about that. However, when it comes to war, this is the most crucial time wherein you’ve to show cause your “Dharma” isn’t it? Fighting a war is a grave “Adharma” which all of us would be doing to thousands and lakhs of families and animals! The destruction would be unimaginable! Moreover, you know what Duryodhana’s character is. He doesn’t even know an iota of “Dharma” and there is no use of talking about these things to him! You are an epitome of “Dharma”. I’m telling you all these because I’m sure that you will understand the gravity of the situation and make a decision accordingly. Moreover, you’ve also been in the forest for thirteen years. So maybe if you can spend some more time doing “Tapas”, this time lag might lower the intensity of the situation a bit and at a later stage we shall try to negotiate for a better deal! I feel that this kind of a “wait and watch” approach would definitely be binding towards the path of “Dharma” by saving more than a thousand lives!”

As Sanjaya proposes thus, Yudishtra replies back: “Oh great Sanjaya! You are a learned scholar and has extremely good knowledge about what is “Dharma” and “Adharma”. Of course, preventing a war is of paramount importance and there’s no second thought about it. But I’m somehow not getting convinced with the fact that I’ve to compromise and do “Tapas”, so that Duryodhana would benefit. This is something I will not be able to accept, for the very fact that I’m a “Kshatrya” prince. Now let me share my understanding about the “Raaja-Dharma” – As a “Kshatrya” (Warrior), isn’t it the duty of a king to protect his kingdom if it is in danger? Indraprastha is in danger for the past thirteen years and owing to an instruction, I’ve been compromising. However, now that the time period is over, isn’t it my duty as a “Kshatrya” king to administer my kingdom and people effectively according to the “Dharma”? Performing “Tapas” in the forest isn’t the duty of a “Kshatrya” prince. This is to be done by Brahmana Rishis who are extremely capable of realizing the “Brahman”! As a “Kshatrya”, my duty is to fight and what is wrong in this? By doing so, I don’t think I’m going against my “Dharma”. In fact, I would be failing in my “Dharma” if I’m not standing up for the cause of my kingdom and my people. If there is a war in this pursuit, there is no other option but to fight the war! Hence, your argument that I’ve to refrain from war to protect “Dharma” seems illogical to me!”

Saying thus, Yudishtra straightaway conveys his opinion and stance! It is now up to Sanjaya to do the needful! What is Sanjaya going to say and what is the next course of action? Stay tuned for the next episode to find out! 🙂

Episode # 715 – “I’m not in favour of making a compromise for Duryodhana!” – Yudishtra’s firm reply!!!

In the previous episode, we had witnessed an interesting dialogue that happens between Sanjaya and Saatyaki on what is “Dharma” according to the current situation in hand and who should compromise. Sanjaya’s version is very simple here – Let Yudishtra make the compromise since he is the one who understands “Dharma”. The “Dharma” here is to somehow avoid a war, which can have disastrous consequences on the entire country. Thousands of people will die and all their families will plunge into an irrecoverable crisis. Thus, to avoid the war from taking place, according to Sanjaya, there is no use talking to Duryodhana to make a compromise, because he doesn’t understand even a speck of what is “Dharma”! Given this reality, even though it is hard to digest, Sanjaya says that Yudishtra can opt for the compromise option by letting Duryodhana rule the kingdom. Now, we’ve to see how this answer goes down amidst the Paandava camp. Is this going to create a backlash or is it going to solve the issue once and for all?

Moving on thus, it is now the turn of Bhagawan Krishna to get up and give His opinion. He addresses Sanjaya thus, “Oh great Sanjaya! You are a learned scholar and today you’ve proved your mettle! You’ve made a correct assessment of the entire situation and have played your cards to perfection! I congratulate you for this! Yes! You’re right! “Dharma” is always on the side of Yudishtra and you’ve made it extremely clear here. This itself is a great acceptance and whatever you’ve said with regards to the war being avoided is extremely correct! War should be avoided at any cost, as this would create untold miseries to thousands of people! Hence, we should not go for it! Hence, someone should make a compromise! Till this you’re extremely right!”

As Bhagawan Krishna talks this way, people around Him are getting confused! Arjuna couldn’t stand it anymore and asks Bhagawan Krishna thus, “Oh Bhagawan! Till now you were saying that if we’re asked to compromise, war is the only option that is left, aren’t you? Now, why is your stance contradicting? Why are you sounding as if we’ve to make the compromise for the war not to take place? I’m not able to understand and comprehend your words!” As Arjuna explains thus, Bhagawan Krishna replies back: “Oh Arjuna! Whatever Sanjaya says is right! There is no second thought on that! If you’re ready to compromise, say that you’re ready for it. If you’re not ready for it, you may feel free to express your decision accordingly! Hence, why should we hold Sanjaya ransom for this? He is doing his job to perfection. He is explaining that going for a war will be a gross “Adharma”, and what is wrong in it? If you’re wanting the kingdom, then go for it! Why are you blaming Sanjaya for it?”

Saying thus, Bhagawan Krishna turns towards Yudishtra, who was sitting silently all this while! Yudishtra is patiently listening to all that is being said by everyone and has reserved his opinion till now. Bhagawan Krishna asks Yudishtra thus, “Oh Yudishtra! Now that we’ve discussed a lot on what is “Dharma” and “Adharma” in this context, your opinion is important here, as you are the person in the dock! Hence, it is now time that you make a decision and convey it to Sanjaya accordingly in front of all of us!” Saying thus, Bhagawan Krishna smartly turns the tables on Yudishtra! Now the onus is on Yudishtra to take the final call in this matter!

Now Yudishtra gets up and starts giving his accord. He says thus, “Oh great uncle Sanjaya! As Bhagawan Krishna just mentioned, whatever you are saying is extremely pure and is according to the “Dharma”, for which I agree. I totally agree on the fact that war is a disastrous decision and going for it is a gross “Adharma” on thousands of people! However, I’m not in sync with what you said next – Me making the compromise!” So for today, let us understand up to this point and in the next episode, we shall continue with what Yudishtra has to say and why he is not in sync with Sanjaya’s opinion! Stay tuned for an interesting accord! 🙂
